REVIEW: Original Brand Chinese Dolls - 3D Eyes, Kurhn, Xinyi (PART 1)

There are several branded dolls from China that the international doll communities are raving about. Being fascinated with the Asian culture, I have a soft spot for dolls that come from our region, too. For this article, however, I will only focus on Chinese brands that I have recently purchased online.

These three brands have always been on the top of my "soon-to-be-my-housemates" list which were 3D Eyes, Kurhn and Xinyi. Among the three, Kurhn, I believe, is the most popular as it has quite a strong cult following for some time now and could actually give foreign brands a run for their money.
Anyway, if this is the first time you are hearing about 3D Eyes and Xinyi, I hope this review will interest you to know about them more.

I bought these dolls online by parts because it is cheaper to get them that way instead of getting the full set, plus I have the option to choose the bodies that I think would go well with the heads that I want. I'll just have to assemble them later when they arrive. So, my orders include a piece of the following:

- 3D Eyes head
- Kurhn head
- Xinyi head
- the 2nd wave of 3D eyes body with 12 points of articulation, pink variant (although it's not really pink, more like a flesh tone)
- the 3rd wave of Kurhn body with 14 points of articulation, small breasts and white skin tone
- the 2nd wave of Xinyi body with 14 points of articulation, big breasts and white skin tone
- 3 sets of Barbie clothes

I didn't have much expectations when I placed an order for these dolls because eventhough they are authentic, they are kind of cheap and will not come with its original packaging so it is only natural to expect some tiny flaws in the products. It is also the same clear warning that my seller put in the listings of these dolls. However, out of curiosity, I still took the risk. The risks I have taken were all worth it after all. I was amazed when I see them in person. It does really exceeded my expectations. By the way, my seller's the one who put the heads and bodies together. I already received them that way.

Ok, here's a side-by-side photo of the dolls with the tape measure so you'd have a visual guide of their anatomical measurements. You may need to click on the photo to view its actual size.

Let's take a closer look of 3D Eyes first. She came as a bit of surprise to me. I didn't expect for her head to be this big (2.5 inch/6cm). You can even see on the above photo that she has the biggest head among the three. Nevertheless, she has a kind, pretty heart-shaped face sculpted in a soft vinyl head. Her realistic eyes are made of acrylic, similar to the ones used by most bjds (read: ball-jointed dolls). Eyebrows, not too thick, not too thin. Eyeshadows are light-pink. Eyelashes are painted. Lips are more of a natural shade, I think she hates lipsticks. LOL! But it suits her sweet face, though. I love natural-looking doll faces. Her hair is soft and thick. No bald spots! And it certainly does not lack volume in that department. Lucky girl! ^^

Judging from her big head and default body, I can say that 3D Eyes is the Chinese version of the Liv doll. Some slight differences worth mentioning is that 3D Eyes has a rooted hair and simple feet design while Liv makes use of wigs and has a bigger, more detailed feet with fingers.

Kurhn is the first Chinese doll that I fell in love with. Her doe eyes are so expressive, it can either make her look so innocent and mysterious from one angle and a good girl gone bad while giving a side-eye as if she's telling you to back-off, in another. She has a white, soft vinyl head with soft and thick hair. You can style her hair however you want it. Eyebrows are curved and thick.  Her eyeshadows has that transparent-looking effect. Eyelashes are also painted. Cheeks has a pink, almost non-existent blush-on. Lastly, her fuchsia colored lips are slightly pouted. Always ready for photoshoots, this one! ^^

Xinyi is simply a breakthrough for me. With her dreamy eyes, she is a real seductive and stunning beauty. Compared to the first two, her head is made of hard vinyl, has a pale white skin tone which could almost pass her as a porcelain doll. Her jet black hair is long, straight, soft and silky that she could even endorse a shampoo commercial and it will go sold out immediately. No kidding! LOL! ^^

What's more interesting to note is that Xinyi has a strong resemblance with popular Chinese actress Fan Bing Bing who was already immortalized by Mattel as a Barbie wearing the reproduction of Laurence Hsu's Dragon Robe in 2014.

I remember someone selling that dress in one of the Facebook doll groups I'm in before. Now, I kinda regret not buying it then. It would have been a great fit for my Xinyi doll. Oh, well... better luck next time, I guess. :)

The first part ends here for the meantime. In the second part of my review, I will talk about their bodies in detail. Thanks for reading! ^_^V
